Chimney Swift counts in Houston have been interesting the last several weeks as young swifts fledged and left their chimneys.
On July 20, we counted 67 swifts at Whole Foods, 158 swifts at Pershing, and 3+ swifts at Russ Pitman Park.
On July 27, we counted 162 swifts at Whole Foods and 43 swifts at Pershing. On July 30 there were 53 swifts at Russ Pitman Park.
In the last week the swifts switched from roosting at Pershing to Whole Foods.
Roosting swift numbers are also increasing at Russ Pitman Park.
On July 23, I counted 1125 chimney swifts at Lakeview Elementary School in Sugar Land.

Shelia Hargis and I participated in Swift Night Out at a chimney in downtown Austin a half block south of the capitol grounds on Brazos St. We had watched the same chimney last year and watched 3 Chimney Swifts enter it at that time. Tonight we had high hopes as we watched as many as 8 swifts circling the chimney. Just when we thought they were coming in for a landing they veered off and apparently roosted in another chimney nearby. We saw one enter the chimney we watched. We hope to be able to find the actual chimney that they use, maybe by looking at some Google Earth aerial shots.  A bonus on the night was our first of season American Kestrel flying first south, then returning in the direction of the capitol grounds.

Although I saw > 15 swifts in the skies only 7 dropped into my chimney. The area is residential and I guess other chimneys are being used.
