400 swifts, Arthur Edwards Elem. School chimney; 8:20 PM, 84 degrees and clear, Havelock NC.
School chimney at West Carteret High School, Morehead City had no birds. Have checked it for two nights. This is a large roost and I'm investigating it, but it will be Monday 8/16 before I have an answer. For years swifts have roosted in this chimney - this is very disturbing.

Note; after fledging this summer, we did see 7 flying around together over our house - the largest grouping we have seen in the 5 years we have been here. We have had a nest every year since our house was built. Not sure if these were 2 adults and 5 babies or not; Previously only 2 or 3 babies in our chimney. Will try to look again in September.

Fairmont, VA

My parents observed their Chimney Swift Tower from pre-dusk to dark on August 7. There were unfortunately no swifts.
They seem to have left the area prior to August.
Weather was clear and hot.
Please record their # as 0

I sent this report on the behalf of my parents - they are located in Fairmont WV - south side on Dean Drive also known as Rt. 7.

My Dad built a Swift chimney expecting several "families" to use it and was surprised to learn that they are somewhat territorial and won't move in where there are others.

It's in their back yard and he has enjoyed watching those that do move in, coming and going.  My Dad has really enjoyed the reports - has me look them up on the computer when I visit.

Thanks for providing him additional entertainment!
